You may not need your furnace in Tumacacori, AZ, as much as people in the Northeast, but when it comes time to turn it on, you want it to work. Here are three things you can do before it’s time to turn on your furnace this fall to make sure you aren’t stuck in the winter cold.
1. Check Your Filters and Ducts
You’ve just been using your HVAC system all summer for cooling in a dusty climate. It’s time to make sure that your filter is clean. If it isn’t, change it.
Your ducts are as important as your filter. If they’re full of dust, that dust could end up inside your furnace.
Burning dust can cause bad smells and unhealthy air. If your ducts are dirty, consider having them professionally cleaned before you have to turn your heater on.
2. Test Your Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Furnaces can create toxic carbon monoxide. While their vent pipes should transmit harmful emissions outside, they could have shifted or broken during the hot summer. Make sure that your CO detector works before turning your system on for the year — it could save your life.
3. Have Your Furnace Professionally Serviced
Annual heating maintenance is key to keeping your furnace running all winter. During a heating maintenance visit, one of our trained HVAC technicians will clean and lubricate all of the important parts of your furnace and make sure nothing is starting to fail. If a component is on its way out, we can replace it before it causes your furnace to break down.
Now is the perfect time to make sure your furnace is in good working condition. Before you turn your heating system on this year, call Oasis Air Conditioning & Heating for maintenance, and we’ll make sure you’re ready for winter.
