Strange Air Conditioner Noises that Shouldn’t Be Ignored

  • July 30th, 2019
  • | HVAC Blog

Hearing some noise when you turn on the air conditioner in your Amado, Arizona, home is normal. However, some air conditioner noises shouldn’t be ignored. Here are some strange noises you might hear from your air conditioner, along with information on what they mean and why they merit professional attention.

Clicking

Clicking is the most common noise you’ll hear coming from your air conditioning unit and is normal in most cases. Your air conditioner should click once when turning on and off, but if the clicking is continuous, there may be a problem. Ongoing clicking usually means an electrical problem with your system. Electrical issues are very complicated and can be dangerous, so you should get in touch with a professional for help.

Screeching

A screeching sound coming from your unit means there is a major problem that deserves immediate attention. You can determine your issue based on when the screeching noise occurs. If the screeching noise is continuous, then it means your air conditioner motor is on the verge of failure and needs to be replaced. If the screech only happens just after turning your unit on, however, you may be dealing with a bad compressor coil.

Banging

Banging noises can be concerning and for good reason. In addition to the loud sound, banging typically means there’s a loose part in your air conditioner that may be hitting other parts. Usually, banging comes from your blower or motor, but there’s no way to know for sure until you schedule a professional inspection. Banging noises typically get worse the longer they’re ignored, so you should be sure to call your air conditioning contractor the moment you hear this noise.

When you hear any of these strange noises coming from your air conditioning system, you can get the help you need by calling Oasis Air Conditioning & Heating at (520) 648-1755. One of our techs will find the cause of the noise and fix it as quickly as possible.
